 About The Melon Patch Tour
 
This is the 11th year of the Melon Patch Tour, it was organized in 1994 by Anne and Bruce Haass, they were advised on how to set up the bike ride by Don and Susie Ickles of San Angelo. The first Melon Patch Tour committe had 11 members. The first year there were 175 bike riders, the ride has increased each year and in 2003 there were 750 riders. It also has about 250 volunteers who assist in keeping the ride running smoothly. The Melon Patch Tour is an activity of the Peach and Melon Festival and is always held on the Saturday of The Peach and Melon Festival. All profits from the ride will go towards the construction and maintenace of the Peach and Melon Festival buildings and grounds.
 
 The Ride Today
 
Riders have come from all over the state of Texasas well as New Mexico, Oklaoma, Tennesse, Arkansas, some as far away as Oregon, Rhode Island and Quebec, Canda. Many riders return year after year

The Melon Patch tour is well known as a fun, family orientated bike ride with great rest stops, some of the food enjoyed at the rest stops is the usual Bananas, oranges, gatoraide, plus homemade cookies, Dole fruit bars, granol bars, peanuts, Snicker bars, ice cream, watermelon and cantelope slices. The De Leon Study Club also has a Spghetti lunch at the finish of the ride
